Dashaway Company awarded the ICAA’s Industry Innovator of the Year Award 2008
LOS ANGELES — November 10, 2008 — The Dashaway System has been chosen by the International Council on Active Aging as North America’s most innovative new piece of equipment for active older adults. The Dashaway is the first device to function as both a mobility aid with full upright support, a rehabilitation tool for both professionals and their patients, and a mobile platform for functional standing exercises.

The Dashaway Company was founded in 2006 by world renowned business pioneer and philanthropist Stanley Dashew, a 92 year old active senior with Parkinson’s disease and Charles Blount, a 36 year old an entrepreneur and exercise physiologist. The co-inventors of the Dashaway, Stanley Dashew and Charles Blount, both have compelling stories to tell. Stanley is a 91 year old Parkinson’s patient, with 2 chronic back conditions, yet amazingly he still lives an extremely energetic and active lifestyle. Stanley has a life long history of innovation, invention, and adventure which will soon be released to the public in his autobiography, entitled, “You Can Do It!”
The Dashaway was originally conceived to help Stanley recover his strength, mobility, and confidence. This is where master exercise physiologist Charles Blount came into the picture.
Charles was recommended to Stanley as a successful Hollywood trainer and inventor of the popular Pilatesstick. His extensive experience helping celebrities get whipped into shape made him an obvious choice for the future of Stanley’s health. Stanley suffered from both Spinal Scoliosis and Stenosis and was unable to stand without support. Working with a man at the age of 89, who had all these chronic conditions, was a formidable challenge for Charles.
Traditional solutions failed to do more than offer temporary relief, together they began to search for a way to get Stanley upright and exercising safely. Then in March of 2006 Stanley’s health went from bad to worse. He fell and fractured his hip. This is where many people would have given up, but not Stanley, he is a fighter.
It was clear at this point they needed to find a device that would enable Stanley to get upright and out of pain. They tried numerous solutions, but nothing on the market was adequate to meet his needs. Stanley’s previous success as an inventor gave him the resources and connections needed to assemble a top team of engineers to help them in their mission. Stanley spared no expense, his life was on the line!
Over a year later, through continued use of the Dashaway, Stanley is upright, mobile, and pain free. Currently he is President of the Dashaway Company, continuing his philanthropy, photography, sailing and entertaining. Amazingly, he is now able to spend an evening dancing. This unbelievable recovery impressed his family, friends, and the medical community alike.
Mr. Dashew’s generous nature and desire to share this life transforming recovery with others, led to the creation of the Dashaway Company. As the final chapter in his legacy, the Dashaway Company is also his greatest contribution to mankind. This inspiring story is a great example of how one person can make the world a better place.
